Access For Sight Impaired ConsumersEffective December 16, 2004, holders of the current "CNIB transit pass" can now use this pass as full proof of payment on the West Coast Express commuter train which travels into downtown Vancouver from Mission and other municipalities during weekday mornings and afternoons. Previously, your pass entitled you to a concession or discounted fare. However, effective immediately, persons who are blind, visually impaired or deaf-blind and possess a valid "CNIB transit pass" can now travel the entire route or portion thereof by presenting their valid "CNIB transit pass". Those who also possess a valid HandyCard, may use their HandyCard in concert with their CNIB transit pass to gain passage for both themselves and their sighted guide. This full concession will be included in future editions of the GVTA tariff.
As a reminder to all, your current "CNIB transit pass" is due to expire at midnight on December 31, 2004. Thereafter, your CNIB national ID card will be valid fare for public transit services on all BC Transit and TransLink services (except HandyDART) in BC, effective January 1, 2005. BC residents who are legally blind and who are still unaware of this significant change, please contact your closest CNIB Regional Office for further detail.
